Are You Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

Red Riding Hood is sexy, mysterious, darkly intoxicating. I couldn't put it down! It was definitely a good twist for a story I grew up reading. I always imagined it as a dark morbid tale instead of a light happy fairy tale.

Red Riding Hood - Sarah Blakely-Cartwright, David Leslie Johnson, Cathrine Hardwick
Bookcover: Red Riding HoodIn a time when villages are so small that everyone knows everyone else, one girl struggles to find her own way. After her sister’s violent death, Valerie’s world begins to spiral out of control; a marriage is being forced upon her, her father is the town drunk, her mother wants to control her and her true love wants to run away with her – but where can they run from this small village and it’s big secrets?
For generations, the Wolf has been kept at bay with a monthly sacrifice but now no one is safe. When an expert Wolf-hunter arrives, the villagers learn that the creature lives among them – it could be anyone in town. It soon becomes clear that Valerie is the only one who can hear the voice of the creature. The Wolf says she must surrender herself before the blood moon wanes, or everyone she loves will die.
Who will save her? Or can she save herself?
In this dangerous, riveting new vision of a classic fairy tale, the happy ending may be hard to find.

Fallen Series

This is by far my favorite fallen angel series I have read yet. It's so intense, dark, and the relatioships are just mmm! But you be the judge let me know what you think about this series.

Fallen Series ~ Lauren Kate

Some Angels are Destined to Fall
There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

LOVE NEVER DIES

Lucinda is sure that she and Daniel are meant to be together forever. Now they are forced apart in a desperate bid to save Luce from the Outcasts–immortals who want her dead. As she discovers more about her past lives, Luce starts to suspect that Daniel is hiding something. What if he has lied to her about their shared past? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

Luce would die for Daniel.

And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way. . . .

Luce is certain that something—or someone—in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime . . . going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel . . . and finally unlock the key to making their love last.

Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history.

Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever.

Adventure Fiction

Another great series I have found is from Maureen Johnson called  Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes,(which is the first book and the second is) The Last Little Blue Envelope. I loved this series because it was unpredictable and the characters are so full of spunk and are sponateous. I also got to learn about other countries which is fascinating for me cause I have always wanted to travel.

Here’s the deal: Aunt Peg, the New York artist and the person Ginny Blackstone depended on to make her life interesting, took off to Europe without a word three years ago. Aside from a few postcards, Ginny hasn’t heard much. Then she gets a horrible phone call that changes everything.

But the story is only beginning. Soon after, Ginny receives one little blue envelope from Aunt Peg containing a thousand dollars and some very strange instructions…

And with that, she is sent off to pick up a package containing twelve similar envelopes, which she can open one by one, as instructed. Each letter contains a task that Ginny must perform.
Soon, the mild-mannered and quiet Ginny (who’s barely made it out of New Jersey before) finds herself running from London to Paris to Rome, and beyond. Along the way, she collects a number of new friends, including: a manager from Harrods department store who runs errands for the rich and famous, a handsome but maddening thief-turned-playwright, a celebrity painter who tattoos the names of her dead pets on her body, and the angriest vegetable salesman in all of France.
As time goes on, Ginny realizes that her aunt has sent her on a mission, and that there is something big waiting for her in the thirteenth envelope. All she has to do is make it from place to place and complete all of the tasks that have been set before her.
As if life is that easy.

The Last Little Blue Envelope

Maureen Johnson Scarlett Fever
People would say that it’s impossible to have a private pool in the city, unless you were some sort of mogul and had it on the roof of your penthouse or something. But it’s not illegal to have a really clean dumpster, and if you want to fill it with water, and if you want to get in it… well, that’s your prerogative. People always say they can’t do things, that they’re impossible. They just haven’t been creative enough. This pool is a triumph of imagination. That’s how you win at life, Gin. You have to imagine your way through. Never say something can’t be done. There’s always a solution, even if it’s weird.”

Ginny Blackstone thought that the biggest adventure of her life was behind her. She spent last summer traveling around Europe, following the tasks her Aunt Peg laid out in a series of letters before she died. When someone stole Ginny’s backpack—and the last little blue envelope inside—she resigned herself to never knowing how it was supposed to end.
Months later, a mysterious boy contacts Ginny from London, saying he’s found her bag. Finally, Ginny can finish what she started. But instead of ending her journey, the last letter starts a new adventure—one filled with old friends, new loves, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Ginny finds she must hold on to her wits . . . and her heart.
This time, there are no instructions

SteamPunk

Attention: Fellow Steampunkers We have A new Author in our midst! WELCOME KADY CROSS!!

I first discovered Kady Cross on the Nook looking for free ebooks and came across this short story called 'The Strange Case of Finley Jayne'  the first thing that intrigued me about this ebook (low an behold) was the cover. I try not to judge books by their covers but sometimes you just can't help it! You know when you see something and you can just tell that it's going to be great? Well, that's what happened here. 'The Strange Case of Finley Jayne' is actually a Prequel to 'The Girl in the Steel Corset' which just recently came out. The covers of both are posted below with the Synopsis. (weird word always thought so. (laughs to self))

Finley Jayne knows she's not 'normal'. Normal girls don't lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things. Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she's offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience. Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned. She will do anything to protect her new friend, but what she discovers is even more monstrous than anything she could have imagined…
(Oooo I just loved it! Not that I'm trying to influence your opinion cause that would be totally wrong of me ;) )

In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the "thing" inside her.
When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….
Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special, says she's one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.
Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help—and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.
But The Machinist wants to tear Griff's little company of strays apart, and it isn't long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she's on—even if it seems no one believes her.

(Can't wait to read! heehee mental note: find way to earn monaay $$)

I will try and see if I can possibly interview Kady Cross but that might be hard to do.

Summer Readzz

Hi,
I am Megan a Bookaholic Teen. It is summer again which means (drum roll, with electric guitar action) SUMMER READING PROGRAMS!! At your local Library! So if you dont have any idea where to start or if you are looking for some great summer readzz you might want to check out these:

Along For the Ride- Sarah Dessen

It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.
A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.

It's more of a heavier summer read just to forewarn, but its worth it! I really enjoy reading from Sarah Dessen because her characters seem to be so real and are relatable.

Going Too Far - Jennifer Echols

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO?

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge--and over...

This book, whew! (waves hand in front of face) Ok it definitely has some mystery to it and can be kind of tense.

Two-Way Street

 Two*Way Street - Lauren Barnholdt

There are two sides to every breakup.

This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They're even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation.

Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet.

It's too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney's heartbroken, but figures she can tough it out for a few days. La la la -- this is Courtney pretending not to care.

But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot.

Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

I really enjoyed the banter going back an forth between Courtney and Jordan, and it's a great start off for summer reading.

I hope that this helps your summer reading to kick-off if it hasn't already.
